Paying for College


Grants, Work Study, Scholarships, Loans?  There are so many ways to help offset the cost of a college education - check out the financial aid power point below to learn more about the process.  After that, complete your FAFSA noting the schools you want to receive your information so they can  then send you a financial aid award letter.  You can then see which school is giving you the best deal!

Pastel Society of the West Cost (PSWC) $1,000 Art Scholarship:  Deadline March 31, 2019.  Current High School Senior.  Application, Paragraph describing why you want to pursue an art career and who influenced you, 3 letters of recommendation (2 of which are from school faculty), 3 portfolio images submitted on CD and mailed with application to:  Russell Frank PO Box 727, Springville, CA  93265 OR Scan and emailed with other required documents to the contact person listed on the PSWC Website Scholarship page (on the left hand side of their page) located here.

Freemont Foundation Scholarship:

Deadline:  January 18, 2019  2019-2020Scholarship Programfor Graduating High School Seniors Guidelines The James M. & Erma T. Freemont Foundation announces the 2019-2020Freemont Scholars Awards Program. Program Guidelines & Priorities: * Seeking graduating seniors attending high school in the United States with a record of leadership and volunteerism in the community in non-school sponsored activities and participation in extracurricular school activities.* Applicant must complete high school in the spring of 2019.* Applicant must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale,excluding home school studies) and plan to attend an accredited HBCU. (HBCU is defined as “historically black colleges and universities”.)*

Applicant must apply to and be accepted into an accredited HBCU by July 1, 2019.* Applicant must have minimum SAT score of 1150 or ACT score of 21.* Applicant must be a United States Citizen* Applicant must intend on pursuing an undergraduate degree in the sciences with the intention of pursuing that discipline as a career. The following majors will be considered: Biomedical and Biological Sciences, Engineering and Engineering Technology, Health Professions, Mathematics and Statistics, Physical Sciences, Psychology, Science Technology.* Applicant must plan to matriculate at an accredited HBCU for the Fall 2019/Spring 2020 academic year (enrollment must begin in the Fall) with the intention of maintaining full-time status for the entire year.  Link to Application

California Association of Wine Grape Growers:  Deadline March 8, 2019.  For children whose parents or legal guardians are employees of a CA winegrape grower working in the 2018 or 2019 winegrape growing season are eligible to apply. www.cawgfoundation.org


First Break Scholarship

Here's the essay question:

 When was the last time you called somebody crazy (or somebody called you crazy) and why? How did that make you feel?

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

· Applicants may be any age 18 or younger. Application is not open to those who have already graduated high school.

· Applicants must live and go to school in Shasta, Tehama, or Siskiyou County, California.

· Applicant must be heading to college or university Fall of 2019.

· Author’s name, contact information, 2019 Fall college or university and essay title at top of first page; the following pages should be numbered with the author’s last name.

· Length & Parameters: 500–700 words. Typed, 12pt Times New Roman font. Double-spaced with 1” margins. Send in PDF file format; if not sent in PDF, entries will be returned with request to re-submit in the preferred file format.

· Only one submission per applicant. Application consists of completed essay; there is no separate application form.

Wendy's High School Heisman:  Deadline 10/17/2018  $5,000 100 awards. 

Criteria For Application

  1. Students whose senior year of high school is the 2018–2019 academic year, graduating with the class of 2019.
  2. Students who have at least a “B” grade average (3.0 GPA) during grades 9, 10, and 11.
  3. Students who participate in at least one of 47 Wendy’s High School Heisman recognized sports recognized by the International Olympic Committee or the National Federation of State High School Associations.
  4. Students who have participated in volunteer service, community involvement or leadership within his/her school or community.

Hispanic Heritage Youth Awards:   Deadline Oct. 15, 2018

Eligibility:

  • Be currently enrolled in high school and graduating in the spring of 2019
  • Must have a minimum unweighted 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale or 7.5 on a 10.0 scale
  • Must enroll at an accredited higher education institution in 2019-2020
  • Be of Hispanic heritage (includes Spain, Brazil, Philippines)
  • If selected, attendance to regional awards ceremony is mandatory and travel is at the recipient’s expense
  • Be a U.S. permanent resident, U.S. citizen, or qualify under the DACA

Andy Peek Livestock Endowed Scholarship Deadline:    December 12, 2018

This fund was established by the Red Bluff Bull and Gelding Sale in honor and memory of Andy Peek. Andy Peek was president of Western Video Market and also General Manager of Shasta Livestock Auction Yard in Cottonwood, California, a family-owned business where he worked for over four decades. He was a past president of the California Livestock Marketing Association and served as a board member for the National Livestock Marketing Association. Andy was a past chairman of the Shasta District Fair Board in California and in 2007 was named Tehama County (CA) Cattleman of the Year. Andy was a major presence in the U.S. livestock industry. To continue Andy’s support of youth programs, this scholarship will be offered annually to students majoring in Agricultural Studies (with a special emphasis in the livestock industry) who share Andy’s desire to work in the industry he dearly loved.

The Coca-Cola Scholars Program Scholarship

The Coca-Cola Scholars Program scholarship is an achievement-based scholarship awarded to graduating high school seniors. Students are recognized for their capacity to lead and serve, as well as their commitment to making a significant impact on their schools and communities. With the 30th class in 2018, the Foundation has provided over 6,000 Coca-Cola Scholars with more than $66 million in educational support. 150 Coca-Cola Scholars are selected each year to receive this $20,000 scholarship. National Co-Op Scholarship Program:  various deadlines.  9 WACE Partner Institutions - Clarkson, Drexel, Johnson & Wales, Merrimack, Rochester Institute of Technology, State University of New York Oswego, University of Cincinnati, University of Toledo, Wentworth Institute of Technology.  Min $6,000 scholarship toward tuition.  http://www.waceinc.org/scholarship/

Prudential Spirit of Community Awards:  Deadline Nov. 6, 2018.  This award is to honor grade 5-12 students for making meaningful contributions to their communities through volunteer service. $1,000

Elks National Most Valuable Student Scholarship:  Deadline 11/15/18.

Applicants will be judged on scholarship, leadership, and financial need.

Eligibility:
  • Current high school seniors, or the equivalent, who are citizens of the United States are eligible to apply.
  • Applicants need not be related to a member of the Elks.
  • High school graduates are not eligible to apply.
  • Applicants must be citizens of the United States on the date their applications are signed; permanent legal resident status does not qualify.

Christermon Foundation - Feb. 15, 2019 Deadline.Beverage Industry College Scholarship for 2019 graduating CA high school seniors $3,000-$6,000. www.christermon.com


Knights of Columbus:  Deadline 4/15/19  Graduating seniors from 3 South county parishes:  Holy Family Parish in Weed, St. Anthony's Parish in Mt. Shasta, and St. John's Parish in Dunsmuir.  Must be a practicing Catholic of one of the above named parishes, be a senior, min GPA of 2.0 and intend to enroll at an accredited college or vocational school after graduation.  See Mrs. Porteous for an application
