On Monday, September 11th, we received information regarding a potential threat to Mount Shasta High School. The Mount Shasta Police Department was contacted immediately and began their investigation into the threat. Student and staff safety remain our highest priority, and we took precautions to keep everyone safe while limiting the alarm or panic to our regular school day, as the police did their investigation. They were able to obtain a search warrant, where they found aspects of the threat to be credible, including the seizure of three firearms. A Mount Shasta student was taken into custody on Tuesday, September 12th and charged accordingly.
Due to the ongoing investigation, no further information is available at this time. If anyone has any information regarding this incident, they are asked to please contact the Mount Shasta Police Department at 530-926-7540 immediately.
We understand that incidents like this are concerning for parents, students, and the greater community. We want to assure you that we are doing everything we can to address the situation and keep our school safe. We continue to work with the Mount Shasta Police Department and thank them for their quick response. Please take this time to encourage your children to report any unusual activity or concerns to Michael Wharton, Superintendent or call the Police Department directly.
Thank you,
